For the historical minded, like my Coach, you've got a city full of things to see. My personal favorite is the LBJ Library, and not just because the admission is free. I was around five years old when Kennedy was assassinated and Johnson took over as president. I remember what happened in Dallas and was terrified to move there at age 6. There is a special area designated to the Kennedy assassination, but also cool is the Presidential limousine, complete with bulletproof everything. On the top floor is a small scale Oval Office and a tribute to the life of Lady Bird Johnson full of evening dresses and personal letters.
The Bob Bullock Museum of Texas History is Coach's favorite. It contains three floors, each representing certain years in Texas History starting with the Indians and ending with the present and future of Texas. If you're a True Texan, you must go here at least once... and don't miss the Texas Spirit Theater. The special effects are so real, you'll be on the edge of your seat! I guarantee it!
Last, but certainly not least, is the Texas State Capitol. From The Goddess of Liberty sitting atop the dome to the chambers of congress, this is place where Texas government happens. You don't have to stay long to enjoy the atmosphere, though. Just stroll from the rotunda at its center, down the halls, to the Senate or Representative Chambers. Maybe you'll be lucky enough to see them in action. Daughter-in-law Paige works there now, so hopefully our next trip will involve a chat with her and an insider's view! Anyway, whatever you do, the capitol is a must!
